On the Issues

Below is a comparison of the two leading candidates for the 2nd Representative District on key issues.

Renters’ Rights

Predatory Lending

  • Michelle Booker believes Delaware should crack down on predatory lenders who trap working families in debt cycles with triple-digit interest rates.

  • Rep. Bolden voted no on HB 289 which was a bipartisan law cracking down on predatory payday loans, which carried interest rates well over 400%.

Affordable Housing

  • Michelle Booker supports housing that's actually affordable for the families who want to live here — and protecting longtime homeowners from being pushed out of their own neighborhood.

  • Rep. Bolden was a lead sponsor of HB 458, an eminent-domain expansion that could be used to take individual homes for private developers and fuel gentrification in low-income neighborhoods. The bill was shelved after public outcry.

Environment

  • Michelle believes we need to work towards improving clean air and water across the state. Many Delawareans are exposed to toxic pollutants and unclean water, while the companies that are responsible for the damage are rarely held accountable.

  • Voted to support House Bill 190 which removed Coastal Zone Act protections to allow some heavy industry activity. The Coastal Zone Act has preserved and protected Delaware's coastline for over 50 years.
